Piglets have weak immunity and are susceptible to various ailments. So that they grow strong, healthy, develop well, do not get sick, they should be well looked after.
Treatment for bowel disorders
Suckers may develop dyspepsia for up to a month. It is characterized by toxicosis, diarrhea, growth retardation. They treat diarrhea with "Levomycetin", decoctions of oak bark and other drugs.
When weaning piglets from the uterus and transferring them to a new diet, gastroenteritis may occur. Signs appear: increased thirst, the patch, ears, lower abdominal wall turn blue. Babies become lethargic, lose weight, diarrhea is replaced by constipation.
At the first signs of malaise, the piglets are washed with a saline 0.9% solution. Drinking laxative - "Magnesium sulfate" 15-25 grams, vegetable oil in 1 teaspoon is added to the feed. They also give decoctions of oats, barley, rice. If the pig does not drink on its own, they do it forcibly, insert the neck of the bottle from the side into the mouth and carefully (so as not to choke) pour out up to 100 grams of broth at a time.
With gastroenteritis, an infusion of onions or garlic helps. For 500 ml of boiled water, take 50 g of the product, insist and drink a tablespoon 2 times a day. In case of dehydration and to maintain the body, it is necessary to inject a physiological solution with "Glucose" in an amount of 15-20 ml twice a day.
Treatment is not complete without antibiotics ("Biomycin", "Penicillin" 3000 U per 1 kg of live weight 2 times a day), a solution of "Novocain" 1.5% (10 ml per day). Piglets should always have clean water, vitamins are included in the diet without fail.
Common diseases in piglets
Often, piglets develop respiratory diseases, pneumonia develops. It is important to recognize and begin treatment in a timely manner. If signs appear: loss of strength, cough, refusal to feed, fever - you should contact your veterinarian.
Piglets during this period are placed in a warm, dry room. They are given "Norsulfazole" 0.4-0.05 g per 1 kg of live weight, "Sulfadimezin", "Ftalazol" 1 tablet 3 times a day. The medicine is dissolved in water and drunk or put in the mouth on the root of the tongue, the animal swallows them. Prescribe "Penicillin" or "Bicillin-3" (15,000 U per 1 kg of live weight).
At 3 months of age and older, young animals may develop erysipelas. The infected are separated from healthy animals and injected with anti-erythmic serum at the rate of 2 ml per 1 kg of live weight, and a week later they make a vaccine.
Invasive diseases are quite common in piglets. When infected with parasites, they eat poorly, lag behind in growth, and a disproportionately large belly appears. Worms are treated with Piperazine Salts, which are added to the feed.
Timely vaccinations, a balanced diet and keeping the young in good conditions are the key to getting a healthy livestock and large gains.
