Service dogs include domestic dogs, which are used for driving, guard, search, shepherd and other types of services. This group of breeds has a well-developed instinct to protect the house, things and the owner. Often these dogs are characterized by malice and extreme distrust of strangers. Today there are more than 100 varieties of service dogs in the world. These include shepherds, boxers, St. Bernards, Rottweilers, etc. In order for a dog to be recognized as a service dog, it must have certain qualities.
A service dog must be easy to train. When selecting animals, this quality comes first. Ideal in exterior, but incapable of doing the job, the dog is useless for service dog breeding. Its place is only in the show ring. It is even allowed to raise and breed dogs with good service data, but with some exterior flaws.
The list of qualities that a service dog should possess includes the ability to show an active defensive reaction. Such an animal is not afraid of a person who is ready to strike at him. When a threat approaches, the service dog will respond with a firm grip.
There are qualities that are divided by sex in service dogs. So, males must have activity and character. For bitches, only one parameter is determined - activity. A dog applying for the title of "service" must be checked for these qualities. Activity is revealed when staging the pursuit of an alleged "violator". Strength of character is checked by directing a person in a special suit with a stick to the dog in a frontal attack. The male should not be scared, grab the threat and wait for the owner's approach.
In addition to the above, a service dog must necessarily have such qualities as scent, excellent hearing and sight. These parameters are checked during general training, when the dog is looking for certain things by smell.
A service dog must be physically developed, hardy, and have a good reaction. These animals must also be able to act according to their type of service without an order from the owner. Usually such dogs recognize only one person, do not approach strangers and are always ready to attack. Keeping service dogs is recommended only for people with a stable psyche.
