Instructions
Step 1
To get your horse to sit down, first teach him to lie down. This is a rather complicated process, it takes a lot of time and endless patience. If you are not a professional trainer, do not try to lay the animal alone. Be careful, or you may harm both the horse and yourself. Before such training, be sure to consult with specialists.
Step 2
Earn the maximum trust of the animal. You must achieve complete understanding in order to control and feel confident with the horse in any situation. She may suddenly jump up when she lies down, hitting her hooves or stepping on you. Take it easy: it can take years for a horse to let you touch any part of its body. You will feel when the animal is working with desire.
Step 3
Watch the horse lay down and stand up in freedom or in the stable. Focus on how she moves her front and hind legs during these moments. You can then use every little thing in your workout.
Step 4
Walk calmly to the horse while it is lying down, lightly fiddle with the mane, sit down on the croup (if you can). Make sure that the horse does not jump up when you appear, but rather calms down. If she didn't jump up and run away, then things are going well.
Step 5
Now try teaching your horse to sit. Ask the animal to stand up. When doing this, the horse will first straighten its front legs. It's your job to try to keep her in this position. Give your horse sugar, carrots, or some other treat. She can stay sitting and get used to this "trick" and your command to "sit", and will remain in a sitting position for a long time. Be sure to encourage this every time. If the horse does get to his feet with the treat, continue training by catching such moments.
