Chihuahua puppies up to 5-6 months are better not to bathe. If during a walk the puppy gets its paws dirty, then they can be wiped with a damp cloth. The first vaccinations are given to a puppy at 2-3 months, then the vaccination is repeated every year. After vaccination, you should wait three weeks before the dog can be washed.
Step 2
Dog handlers have no consensus on how often a Chihuahua can be washed. Some advise you to do this no more than once every 3-4 months, some allow a monthly bathing procedure. Washing the coat too often is thought to cause the natural protective film of grease to be washed out and the coat becomes dull, dry and brittle, and the dog can also develop dandruff.
Step 3
In any case, you should use special "dog" shampoos for washing. Take special care not to get water in your dog's ears, which can cause infection and inflammation of the ear canal. Before bathing, roll a couple of small cotton swabs and tuck them into your dog's ears.
Step 4
The air temperature in the bathroom should be high enough so that the dog does not freeze, not lower than 24 degrees. The water temperature is 35-36 degrees. Water can also be drawn into the sink, the dog will fit in it.
Step 5
After wetting the coat, watering the dog from a bucket, apply shampoo to the entire body, tail and ears. You can get more on the paws and stomach. Lather the coat and then rinse off the shampoo by pouring a bucket or shower over the dog. Wrap it up in a towel immediately. The cotton swabs can be removed.
Step 6
Dry your body, tail, paws and head gently and thoroughly. You can dry wet wool with a hair dryer, just make sure that the air is not hot. Do not over-dry your dog's coat when blow-drying, but do not overcool your dog if the air is too cold.
Step 7
Wipe your dog's ear canals with a cotton swab spray. The eyes can be treated and the fur around them can be rubbed with a special agent or simply with a damp bag of already brewed green tea.
