And then a decision arises - to take your beloved cat or dog with you. What do you need to know and do to get your cat out of the country?

Step 1
Obtain from the embassy of the country where you are going, the conditions for the import of animals. Check the rules for transporting animals from the carrier whose services you decide to use. These two documents will be your guides to action.
Step 2
Carry out a full examination of the cat in the district veterinary clinic 2 months before departure.
Step 3
Give your cat two rabies shots at least 10 days apart.
Step 4
Insert a chip under the cat's skin that will prevent the animal from getting lost forever in a foreign country.
Step 5
Obtain an international passport for the cat, which contains the dates of vaccinations and the data of the veterinary hospital that carried out the vaccination.
Step 6
Obtain a health examination of your cat from the chief regional veterinarian three days before departure, indicating the epidemiological condition in the area of residence of the animal during the last months.
Step 7
Purchase a special container for transporting an animal on an airplane, boat or train that meets the requirements of the carrier, the size and weight of the cat.
Step 8
Carry out the treatment of the cat from internal and external parasites in the terms specified in the rules of the embassy and the drugs specified there.
Step 9
Obtain permission to export the animal from the Veterinary Committee, containing information that your pet is not a valuable breeding animal, in order to avoid unnecessary nit-picking at customs (it will take 10-14 days).
Step 10
Get a personal number for the removal of the cat from the Ministry of Agriculture (takes 2-3 days).
Step 11
Check in the border service of the airport, port, station for entering your registration number into the database.
Step 12
Pay for additional baggage indicating the size and weight of the container when purchasing your ticket.
Step 13
Exchange the certificate of the district veterinarian for the certificate of the state veterinarian at the airport, port, train station no earlier than 24 hours before departure and receive a boarding pass for the animal.

Purchase a sedative to help your cat deal with the stress of the move.
