The birthing site is the box where your pregnant cat will give birth and care for her litter of kittens for the first weeks of life.
It must be created 2 weeks before giving birth so that the cat can settle down. Leave the cat food in the bowl, water in this birthing room for an addictive experience.
Location
The drawer should be placed in a quiet room, bathroom or spare room - this would be ideal. The room should be at a comfortable temperature for the cat and her kittens. Mother cat should be away from other pets and children.
Sometimes, despite all efforts, the cat may refuse to use its birthing place, then they choose another place (for example, at the bottom of your wardrobe, in a drawer, under a dresser). If this happens, close the doors to other parts of the house to prevent the cat from escaping. If she seemingly demonstrates a preference for one room, then if she fits, you can move the birthing boxes to that room. Some mother cats like to be close to their owners, others want to be independent in the first weeks of motherhood.
Birth place
The box should be large enough to accommodate the mother cat so that she can stand up and turn around and place her droppings (when the kittens are born).
A sturdy cardboard box should be closed on all sides (and above), and a cutout in the front should allow the cat to rise and turn over.
Contaminated bedding should be removed after birth and disposed of. Clean, fresh linens in the box should be replaced regularly.
If droppings are expected during colder months, the heating pad can be placed in the box. Make sure it doesn't cover the entire bottom surface so that the kittens can get away from the heat if needed. Make sure the temperature is not too hot.
