Rectal prolapse is common in cats and dogs, especially young cats. If you do not take action in the next couple of days, it is possible that the condition of the animal is aggravated, which can be fatal.
After you notice that the rectum of the animal has dropped out, try to immediately take it to the veterinarian for examination. You should not wait for it to adjust itself, because tissue necrosis is possible.
As a rule, if the intestine has fallen out for the first time, the doctor will adjust it under anesthesia, and the anus is sutured with a regular or purse-string suture. Re-examination is appointed in a week in order to remove the threads and examine the animal.
If the reduction of the rectum does not help, it is necessary to suture it to the walls of the abdominal cavity. The operation is abdominal, so the animal after it needs care and proper nutrition.
With necrosis of rectal tissue, excision of a part, stitching and follow-up is indicated. This operation is quite complicated and expensive, but the mortality after it is about 50%.
Do not forget to monitor the nutrition of your pet, follow all the doctor's prescriptions, this is the only way to avoid relapses. Also try to identify the reason why a similar problem occurs, it can be either an infection or a banal helminthic invasion. Often, the intestine also falls out with constipation, which is associated with the fact that the animal has swallowed a bone, cellophane, grass, or the like. Be careful!
