Step 1
The upbringing of any large dog should be started from the first days of its appearance in the house. The wolfhound is no exception. First of all, train your dog in its own place. Prepare her a comfortable bed, designed to grow. Place it away from drafts and not in an aisle. The puppy must understand that this is where he is safe and can rest. Do not fiddle with him when he goes to bed. However, if the dog is resting in the wrong place - on the couch or bed - transfer it to the couch.
Step 2
Teach the wolfhound commands persistently. Please note that he is a greyhound, such dogs do not differ in perfect obedience. However, the dog must learn the commands "Fu", "Place", "Sit" and "To me". Train your puppy until he starts doing them. Do not forget to reward the beast with a treat for obedience.
Step 3
Wolfhounds in the apartment are quite quiet and prefer to sleep in a secluded corner most of their free time. However, at least once a day, the dog should run properly. In urban conditions, walks will have to be done in a muzzle and on a leash. Let the beast free only in deserted places. The wolfhound is a non-aggressive dog, but it frightens passers-by with one of its looks.
Step 4
Irish wolfhounds do not rush at strangers, but they do not mind chasing other animals. Don't let them run uncontrollably. When removing the leash, be sure that the dog will return to you on demand.
Step 5
Do not let your pet pester strangers, fondle them. Wolfhounds can be too intrusive - teach your pupil to control emotions. Don't take him to crowded places. Please note that representatives of this breed do not like loneliness. Do not leave the beast alone for a long time. Communicate with him for at least half an hour every day - play, talk, teach commands.
Step 6
An important point of living together with a wolfhound is caring for its fur. Wash your pet at least twice a month, preferably with a special wire-haired dog shampoo. After a day, the thick coat of the wolfhound should be combed with a wire brush and a metal comb with long teeth. Carefully cut the tangles with scissors. The dog needs to be taught to these procedures from childhood - then it will be easy for you to manage with an adult dog.
