It makes no sense to teach a very small kitten to the toilet - firstly, he has not yet firmly formed the habit of doing his business in the tray, and secondly, it will be quite difficult for him to jump onto the side of the toilet and stay on it. Therefore, wait until your pet is at least three to four months old. However, some "preparatory work" can be done in advance.
Instructions
Step 1
If you are determined to teach the animal to use plumbing, you can purchase a special kit for this purpose instead of a standard tray. They come in different models and are essentially the same tray, only a rounded shape that allows you to securely fix it on the sides of the toilet. If a kitten gets used to walking in such a tray from the very beginning, adaptation to new conditions will be much easier for him.
Step 2
Once your pet has learned to use the no-slip litter box, gradually move the litter box to the foot of the toilet. If the tray was originally in the toilet, it may be possible to rearrange it "in one go." Otherwise, gradually move it in the required direction - 5-10 centimeters after each use. If at some point the kitten starts having problems using the litter box, leave it in place for a few days, and then resume the process.
Step 3
After the litter box is at the foot of the toilet, give the kitten 5-7 days to get used to the new location of his toilet.
Step 4
Now you can start lifting the tray off the floor while reducing the amount of litter. Some toilet training kits come with devices that allow you to gradually raise the litter box. But you can also use "old-fashioned methods" - just put a small (1-2 centimeters thick) stack of newspapers under the litter box every day. Make sure that the structure does not wobble. Observe the cat's behavior. If at any point you notice that he is uncomfortable, leave the tray at the same height for a few days.
Step 5
When the tray rises to the level of the seat, wait a few days and make sure that the kitten confidently jumps to the desired height and does its business without any problems. If everything is in order, remove the newspapers and place the tray directly on the sides of the toilet.
Step 6
After about a week, when the kitten is already accustomed to going to the toilet right here, clean, properly wash and move the tray away (the cat should not find it by the smell) and leave the seat up. Your pet will have no other choice - he just has to use the toilet for its intended purpose.
