Chinchillas are wonderful velvet creatures, no wonder they have become so popular with pet lovers. Often, inexperienced owners are unable to distinguish between a female chinchilla and a male. The thing is that the sex of the chinchilla is practically not expressed in any way outwardly.
Instructions
Step 1
There is some difficulty in distinguishing a female chinchilla from a male. The fact is that these animals have no sex differences in color. It is believed that the female chinchilla is slightly larger than the male, but this sign should not be guided by, as you can easily make a mistake. The fact is that the size of a chinchilla depends not so much on sexual characteristics as on the conditions of detention and diet. So, same-sex individuals of the same age can vary significantly in size, living with different hosts.
Step 2
Another common gender feature among amateurs is character. The fact is that usually females are much calmer and cleaner than males. However, this characteristic should not be guided, because in many respects the character is determined by the individual characteristics of a particular animal. There are both wild females and balanced males.
Step 3
The only reliable way to distinguish a male chinchilla from a female is to examine the genitals of the animal, but even here everything is not so simple. The fact is that the reproductive external organs of the chinchilla of the boy and the girl are visually very similar, it is almost impossible to find clearly pronounced testicles in the male. It is worth focusing only on the distance between the genitals and the anus of the animal. In the male chinchilla, this distance is much greater than in the female. After examining several animals, you will immediately understand what is at stake. The genitals of the chinchilla girl are very tightly pressed against the anus, and this is immediately visible.
Step 4
Chinchillas reach puberty by about six months of age. If before that you do not determine the sex of the animals and do not plant them, then you can accidentally allow unscheduled mating. It is worth remembering that mating between chinchillas of the same litter and even just one blood line is extremely undesirable, since the quality of the offspring in this case is noticeably deteriorating. If you seriously decide to start breeding chinchillas, then try to separate boys and girls in time.
