The health of a miniature dog largely depends on a balanced diet. It is especially important to choose the right diet if you prefer to feed your pet with homemade food.

Step 1
Feed puppies up to 2 months of age 6 times a day. The next two months - 4-5 times a day, then reduce the number of feedings to 3 times. And from 10 months, toy terriers need to be fed only twice a day. In the autumn-winter period, add minerals and vitamins made in the form of tablets or powders to the diet. Choose the portion size individually. Make sure that the sides of the dog do not bulge out after eating, but do not remain sunken.
Step 2
Feed your Toy Terrier only fresh food made from quality ingredients. Remove any leftover food 15 minutes after feeding to train your dog to eat regularly. Also, make sure that your pet always has access to a bowl of fresh water.
Step 3
Start introducing complementary foods at three weeks of age. It is best to start with cereals made from rice, rolled oats or buckwheat. In the future, cereals will have to make up one third of the dog's diet. Along with porridge, you can give low-fat cottage cheese. And also add raw eggs to food, but not more than two pieces per week.
Step 4
After two weeks, introduce lean meats into your pet's diet. Start with a very small bite and gradually increase the serving size. In the diet of a toy terrier, meat should make up half of the total food volume. Occasionally, offal such as heart and liver can be given. But only after prolonged heat treatment.
Step 5
To replenish the toy terrier's body with phosphorus, iodine and healthy fatty acids, add sea fish such as cod, hake or pollock to the menu. But don't have more than two fish days a week.
Step 6
Gradually introduce fruits and vegetables into your dog's diet. Give a small amount of finely grated carrots seasoned with vegetable oil. Boil cauliflower and zucchini. A small amount of fresh tomatoes is also acceptable. From fruits, it is allowed to feed with crushed green apples of domestic varieties.
