Keeping and caring for quails is quite an interesting and profitable activity. Quails need to be fed properly, otherwise they can lose weight and get sick. The correct diet allows you to raise healthy and strong birds.
Instructions
Step 1
Quails are unpretentious in their diet, but with an unbalanced diet they can get sick. The most important thing in feeding is quality food. Quails are well suited for food for poultry, there are no allergic reactions to this or that type of feed. Before buying pet food, the pet owner should familiarize himself with its composition. It should not contain harmful impurities or a large amount of vitamins and minerals.
Step 2
There are two types of feeding for quails - dry and wet. It is much more practical to use dry ones: you can put them in the feeder in reserve and not worry about them lying over and deteriorating. This type of feeding is convenient in summer when wet food can quickly deteriorate. Wet food loses its nutritional value after two hours. The ingestion of stale wet food by birds can cause food poisoning.
Step 3
It is recommended to add any cereal to the liquid mixture. Such feeding allows quails to acquire much more vitamins and protect the beak and nostrils from clogging. Chicken groundbait is great for feeding quails. It contains the required amount of vital elements and is quite economical to use. If it is a concentrate, then it must be diluted with a certain amount of free-flowing dry feed.
Step 4
You can make food for quails with your own hands. In this case, it is highly likely that the bird will receive less of this or that vitamin. This can lead to illness or death. The composition of quail food can be found on information sites or special literature. In spring and summer, you can give quails juicy grass, fresh and boiled vegetables, cottage cheese and boiled chicken eggs.
Step 5
The feed is prepared independently by mixing pre-crushed grains of different cereals. Barley, oatmeal, buckwheat, rice, semolina are suitable. In the resulting mixture of crushed cereals, you can add crushed crackers and finely grated fish or meat. The content of fish or meat in homemade food is mandatory - these are the only components that contain high amounts of protein. Before feeding the quails, it is recommended to add a few drops of fish oil to it.
Step 6
In addition to feed, the quail needs to be supplied with vitamins, which can be purchased at pet stores or veterinary pharmacies. Vitamins are ground and added to the feed. Vitamin D is especially important for quails, so before buying vitamin supplements for food, you should definitely familiarize yourself with the ingredients on the back of the package. The necessary minerals are contained in the eggshell, so it also needs to be ground and added to the feed.
