Breeding dogs of all breeds requires dedication and patience. Mating of toy terriers usually takes place without difficulty, since males of this breed are very active and do not need the help of an instructor at all. Female toy terriers are usually exemplary mothers and playful educators.
Instructions
Step 1
The main thing is to get a good toy terrier bitch. When breeding, it should weigh at least 1, 7 kg, the optimal weight is 2 - 2, 5 kg. Dogs with less weight, although they look preferable in appearance, are not capable of successful puppies. Mating and subsequent childbirth will be fraught with danger to their health and life. It is more expedient to mate a bitch not earlier than on the third heat, the age of the dog should be from 1, 5 to 3 years.
Step 2
Then worry about a good manufacturer. Don't just look at his championship titles and prizes, or size and weight. It is much more important that the male you want to mate with your dog comes from promising parents and gives good offspring. The most fruitful is the method of line breeding, in which a dog and a bitch intended for mating have common ancestors in the third or fourth generation.
Step 3
The optimal mating time is between 10 and 14 days from the start of estrus. A peculiarity of the Toy Terrier breed is often bloodless estrus, when the owner finds out about it with a delay. Therefore, it is important to be able to determine the mating time by observing the behavior of the bitch.
Step 4
After mating, be attentive to the dog in order to timely determine the presence of pregnancy in order to organize proper nutrition and prepare for childbirth. External signs of pregnancy - increased appetite in the first month after mating, relatively fast fatigue, an increase in abdominal volume, swelling of the nipples, the appearance of signs of caution, prudence in movements.
Step 5
The maximum number of possible litters is 6-7. The owner should be ready to help his dog and her puppies during pregnancy, during childbirth, after them. To do this, you can take advice from an experienced breeder, obstetrician-veterinarian, study the relevant literature yourself and gain experience.
Step 6
Despite the abundance of decorative breeds that have appeared recently, toy terriers attract a lot of fans with their cheerful, energetic disposition, compact size and unpretentiousness. Unfortunately, this breed has not yet been recognized by international canine organizations, but the active work of private breeders, kennels and amateurs allows us to hope that it will soon receive official recognition.
