Catfish are popular inhabitants of home aquariums. In order for your pets to feel comfortable, you need to create favorable living conditions for them and learn how to properly feed these bottom fish. Before purchasing these or those catfish, experts advise you to familiarize yourself with the literature on this type of fish, since many of the representatives of catfish are predators and can enjoy the smaller fish living in your aquarium with pleasure.
Instructions
Step 1
There are more than 2000 species of baleen fish in the world, many of which can be kept in home aquariums (aquarists have about 800 such species). Most often, in aquariums, you can see speckled catfish, corridors, brochis, plecostomus, thoracatum, ancistrus, bariancistrus, brachiancistrus, pecoltius, etc.
Step 2
If only catfish live in your aquarium, then you need to feed them with specialized food for these types of fish. The food can be purchased at the pet store or at the Bird Market. As a rule, ready-made feeds are produced in the form of tablets, which immediately sink and then begin to soften. This form of release is the most convenient, since catfish are bottom animals, and it is more convenient for them to take food from the ground.
Step 3
If you have an aquarium where not only catfish live, but also other fish, then you need to feed them with two types of food: one is selected for the type of fish that live with you, and the second is bought specifically for catfish. Some catfish very quickly understand that they have the opportunity to "have a snack" with regular food, so during feeding they go up to the trough and happily eat food from there.
Step 4
In order for the diet of catfish to be complete, in addition to dry food, they must be given live. Bloodworms and tubifex are excellent for this purpose. During the feeding of the fish, some of the worms fall to the bottom, where they burrow into the ground. From there, your catfish will be happy to get them.
Step 5
If you have live plants growing in your aquarium, your catfish will be provided with natural plant food. If the aquarium contains artificial plants, then the catfish must be additionally given scalded lettuce or cabbage leaves. You can also try giving a slice of cucumber.
Step 6
For additional nutrition, you need to install a mango snag or pieces of coconut bark in the aquarium. Catfish will gladly gnaw wood, and will also gladly hide in a convenient shelter.
