At first glance, it may seem that you don't really need to care for the turtle: you put it in a box and feed it occasionally. In fact, caring for such a special animal has some nuances that you need to know and follow.
Instructions
Step 1
A tortoise's prosperous life begins with its house. The terrarium should be large enough for your pet to walk on. It is better that it be horizontal and correspond in size to the size of its inhabitant. The terrarium should have a dark place where the turtle can hide from the sun or human eyes.
Step 2
Ventilate the terrarium; it is best to let one or both sides allow air to pass through. To do this, instead of glass, you can stretch the mesh. The bottom is usually covered with soil. It can be shavings for rodents, sphagnum, turf. Do not use sand, pebbles or sawdust (as decay processes take place in them). It is important to clean daily.
Step 3
In no case should turtles be kept on the floor without a terrarium. This leads to the development of various diseases, injuries and imminent death. In addition, there is a risk of not noticing the animal and accidentally stepping on it.
Step 4
Land turtles are thermophilic animals, so it is so necessary to provide them with constant light and warmth. You can place the lamp directly over the terrarium and try to keep it on as often as possible.
Step 5
It is necessary to bathe land turtles every week. Sometimes, while swimming, the turtle can start to greedily drink water, so it is better to give your pet water before water procedures with clean warm water from a shallow bowl. There should not be a lot of water in the bath, and it should not be hot. Make sure the turtle's head remains on the surface. To prevent the shell from softening, it can be greased with olive oil. Keep your pet warm after bathing.
Step 6
The turtle needs to eat well. Food should be balanced: finely chopped fruits, vegetables and berries (bright color of food is preferable), vitamins, mineral feeding. In addition, dandelion, parsley, clover, and cabbage leaves should be added to food. Leaves can be sprinkled with water. Food of animal origin should be added to the turtle (boiled chicken egg, cottage cheese, boiled fish, chicken, ground beef). You can also offer earthworms, grasshoppers, snails.
If you properly keep a land turtle, it will delight you for a long time with its good appetite, beauty and health.
