The good nature of chinchillas and ease of maintenance allow the fluffy animal to live at home. To meet the growing demand for animals, you can start breeding them. For chinchillas, you need to create not only normal living conditions, but also follow the rules necessary for their reproduction.
Instructions
Step 1
Find parents-to-be. First, decide what color of the cubs you want to get. At home, the main types of colors are crossed: standard, velvet, white, beige, ebony and purple. More than 200 different color combinations can be obtained from them. To get good offspring, select sexually mature animals with the best performance, and the male can be of any age, and the female only needs a young one.
Step 2
Take a seven-month-old female and a nine-month-old male for breeding - this ratio will be optimal for creating a pair. Sexual activity is most pronounced in January - February, although it does not stop from November to May. Determine the hunting time by the behavior of the animals. The female becomes restless and refuses food, scattering it around the cage. And the male during such periods sniffing actively looks after her. The genitals of chinchillas change their usual appearance: in the female, they swell, and in the male, the penis stands out noticeably.
Step 3
Set up a spare mating cage. First, place a male in it, and then add a young female to him. If she doesn't like her partner, she will be nervous, which is immediately noticeable. It happens that both the male is annoyed by the bride, and the animals are aggressively disposed towards each other. Observe their behavior and jail them immediately if there is no sympathy. Try to repeat the acquaintance after a while, and if nothing changes in their relationship, select another pair for breeding.
Step 4
Look for traces of mating. If, when meeting, a male chinchilla begins to look after his girlfriend, your selection turned out to be correct, and you can hope for a more active relationship. Mating takes place at night, so look for a waxy flagellum 2, 5 - 3 cm long among the litter in the morning - this is a vaginal plug. In addition, there will be shreds of fur and clutter on the litter. Monitor the behavior of the animals: if they do not mate within a month, then pregnancy has occurred. But the most reliable indicator is swelling of the nipples, rounding of the abdomen and an increase in the female's weight. During pregnancy (105-115 days) feed your chinchilla a variety of quality food.
