Earning the trust of a chinchilla, and even more so, accustoming it to hands, is not easy and will take time.

While chinchillas are getting used to their new home, try to protect them from even more stress. Do not make noise, do not try to knock the animal out of the cage (if a cage is selected for keeping the chinchilla), do not make a number of sudden movements with it. Let the chinchilla settle down.
Step 2
Communicate with your pet every day, approach his cage, talk to him in a quiet, soothing voice. Let the animal get used to you.
Step 3
Prepare treats that you will treat the animal in the cage. Chinchillas do not eat candy or cookies. The best delicacy for the animal will be dried apples, withered hawthorn and rose hips.
Step 4
Leave the treat in the cage first. Later, start offering the yummy from your hand. Sooner or later, your shush will certainly take a piece of dried fruit from your palm or fingers with its funny paws.
Step 5
Gradually, when the "mouse" gets used to you, and is no longer too shy, try to gently offer him the "palm of friendship." It is unlikely that the first time the animal itself will go into your arms. Your task is to pick up the animal as carefully as possible, trying to avoid stress for the animal as much as possible. You can only pick up the animal in the palm of your hand, in no case under the paws or by the fur. Chinchillas have a protective mechanism - the discarding of hair. Perhaps this is due to the indigenous habitat of the animal - the South American mountains. When the long and thick fur of an animal was pinched between rocks or stones, the animal had no choice but to get rid of the stuck piece of fur. With a predator grabbing a chinchilla by the fur, this also worked. Your task is to teach the animal not to be afraid of your hands. Each time after you pick up the animal, reward it with a treat.
Step 6
The next stage is joint walks. If you want your pet to occasionally stretch its paws as it runs around the room, take some time to walk. Be sure to secure the place where they will pass (remove the wires, shoes, paper, close the doors, plug all the cracks into which the chinchilla could crawl) and you can enjoy communicating with your pet every day not through the bars of the cage. be sure to leave the beast during walks - oak chips "to gnaw", a container with fine sand, something else. Walking is a great opportunity for the owner and the furry pet to play and chat.
