It is almost impossible to distinguish the sex of Dzungarian hamsters in appearance. If you want to acquire just a boy and a girl in order to get offspring in the future, pay attention to the characteristic sexual characteristics of rodents.

Step 1
Inspect Dzungarian hamsters when they are in good spirits. Otherwise, you may be bitten, which is undesirable. Wash your hands thoroughly so that no strong smells from creams or perfumes come from your skin. Gently take the rodent in your hands and place its back in your palm. Some hamsters enjoy interacting with people if they are friendly towards them.
Step 2
Look at the genitals of the rodent. In males, especially at puberty, the testes are clearly visible. They are located at the base of the tail and look like a small pouch covered with wool. Press on them if you want to make sure with certainty that you are holding a representative of the stronger sex. A genital organ should appear from the scrotum. Do everything very gently so as not to harm your hamster.
Step 3
In females, the structure of the reproductive system is much different. The vaginal opening is located very close to the anal, there is practically no hair around it, or it is much shorter than on the whole body. The entrance to the vagina is somewhat reminiscent of the letter Y, only upside down.
Step 4
If you cannot tell the Dzungarian hamsters yourself, see your veterinarian for help. A specialist can easily determine the sex of the rodents. If they are less than 14 days old, then this is problematic. Wait for them to grow up a bit.
