Visually, Dzungarian hamsters do not differ from each other, so it is quite difficult to determine their gender by color or size. If you have a couple of hamsters, and you have never seen offspring from them, it is worth considering, perhaps they are same-sex. Finding out their gender is easier in adulthood. In the young, the differences are minimal, but still there.
Instructions
Step 1
Gently take the hamster and place it belly up in your palm. Try to do this very carefully, otherwise you may be bitten, and there will be no question of inspection. If they are not tame, finding out the gender will end in nothing, because they probably will not agree to lie on their hand and pose.
Step 2
Examine the genitals. In males, you will notice a small pouch that sits at the base of the tail. If you have a baby, the pouch will be slightly noticeable, the testicles are formed by puberty. Also, the coat is thick in this area. If you lightly press with the pad of your finger, the genital organ will emerge from the scrotum.
Step 3
Females have sparse fur in this place. The genital opening is located a little closer to the anus, and if you are comparing two rodents, you will probably notice the difference. The entrance to the vagina looks like an English letter Y, but only the sharp side is turned towards the abdomen, and expands closer to the tail.
