Step 1
First, decide where you want to place the cage. It should not be placed in places where people smoke and in a draft. Avoid direct sunlight and moisture. It is also not recommended to sit on the floor, windowsill, next to the air conditioner. Hamsters already live on average, depending on the conditions of keeping and feeding, from 1, 5 - 3, 5 years. So that your little friend lives as long as possible, follow the recommendations.
Step 2
The best option would be to make a cage out of wood. To do this, you need plywood and wooden planks with a thickness of about 12-15 mm. The size should not be less than 40x50 cm, the minimum height is 50 cm - the more spacious, the more comfortable the hamster will be. The floor for the cage must be plastic. You can make it slide. This will make it more convenient for you to remove it.
The rods should be metal and not thin, and the distance between them should not exceed 5-10 mm so that the hamster could not gnaw through them or crawl between them. The door should be positioned so that it is convenient for you to put food, clean the cage inside and just stick your hands in the cage. Please note that your pet cannot open it on its own. But it is better not to put on the springs, since you can accidentally pinch something to the hamster. And you can make the top open or put plexiglass.
Step 3
If you have the time and desire, then you can make the floors inside the cell. The distance between the floors should be at least 30 cm. It is very important that the floors in the cage are made in the form of plastic shelves, and not an iron grate. Do not forget that in addition to all this, you will need to install a wheel, a drinker, a feeder and other equipment at your discretion in the house.
