Any bird kept in captivity needs a cage. The existing stereotype that they suffer in them and strive with all their might to get out into the wild is incorrect - feathered pets eventually get used to the cage and settle down in it. One way or another, deciding to have a bird at home, you must take care of a good cage. A bird house can be bought at any pet store today, but many bird lovers prefer to make it with their own hands.
It is necessary
- metal lattice, wire for lattice, plywood,
- nails or screws, glue, drill, drills, aluminum sheet, paint, sandpaper, drying oil, varnish
Instructions
Step 1
So, if you decide to make a cage for your pet yourself, then first decide on its size. Consider how the cage should be designed so that the bird feels comfortable in it and can move freely.
Step 2
Draw a sketch of the future cell, carefully outline its main details, make all the necessary measurements. You will have to consider the size of the step between the rods and their thickness. By design, the future home of your feathered friend can be anything. It all depends on your taste and imagination.
Step 3
As a rule, the cage consists of a frame, a metal grill and a door. You also need two pull-out sand trays. The frame is the base of the cage, it is made of strong wood - oak or ash. Make cutouts for pallets and feeders. Pallets must be installed on both sides.
Step 4
Prepare the necessary strips, make markings for the holes in their upper part. Pull wire for the grate through these holes. It is better to choose it from stainless steel. The distance between the rods depends on the size of the bird - the smaller it is, the smaller the distance.
Step 5
Wire holes are required with different diameters. In the lower planks - up to 6 cm in depth, and drill through the upper and middle planks. Make the holes so that the wire can hardly enter. Do not forget to cut a cutout for a feeder measuring 6 by 2 cm on one of the slats.
Step 6
Now start assembling the frame. First nail down the lower planks, then the guides for the feeder. Their height should be about 2 cm. Fix the lower bottom made of metal or plywood with nails or screws. Then attach the vertical strips at the corners of the frame, to which you attach the middle strips for greater stability of the iron grating.
Step 7
The frame is assembled. Start making the grill. Insert wire rods into each hole in the plank. Secure the ends with glue. Leave a gap for the door on the front grille. Drill the two extreme holes in the door strips through and through, for movable fixing of the door, the rest - up to half their thickness.
Step 8
Make cage doors in the same way. Insert one of the wires of the iron grate into the outer holes of the door slats. The door on it will move freely.
Step 9
Make the feeder and tray from a sheet of aluminum (2 mm thick). The pallet should be free to enter and exit. The outside of the cage can be painted. Sand the wooden planks with sandpaper, coat, dry and varnish.
