Subcutaneous injections are one of the types of therapy that dog owners have to deal with when their pets get sick. The best option is when all injections are done by a veterinarian, but in cases where you live far from the clinic, and injections are needed several times a day, you will have to learn how to do it yourself.

Instructions
Step 1
Strictly follow your veterinarian's instructions and carefully check the dilution and dosage of the drug. Remember that all medications that you intend to administer to the animal must be sterile and also have an expiration date. Keep in mind that many drugs need to be stored only in the refrigerator, otherwise they will lose their medicinal properties.
Step 2
Prepare a sterile syringe, medicine and alcohol in advance (you can take any alcohol solution, for example, calendula, instead). Wash your hands thoroughly with soap, and then wipe your hands and the ampoule of medicine with alcohol. Open the ampoule. If the medicine is in a bottle, then it is necessary to remove the aluminum circle from above with a knife and wipe the gum with alcohol. Open the sterile package of the syringe, carefully attach the needle (while holding it by the plastic tip, and the syringe by the base).
Step 3
Draw the medicine into the syringe. If it is in the vial, then carefully pierce the rubber stopper, collect the required amount, and then carefully remove the syringe, holding it by the plunger (this is necessary so that the medicine does not spill back under the influence of the vacuum inside the vial). After you have collected the liquid, you need to close the needle with a plastic tip. Make sure there is no excess air in the syringe before injection. If you see bubbles, they can be removed by gently pressing the plunger.
Step 4
Ask family or friends to help you. Subcutaneous injections are given to dogs at the withers (the fold of skin between the shoulder blades). Have the second person hold the dog, and you pull the withers so that a crease forms, and then insert the needle into it. Be careful not to poke through the skin fold. Inject the medicine slowly, then remove the needle and gently massage the skin at the injection site to better distribute the drug.
