Whether you have decided to choose a ferret as a pet or are just thinking about it, one of the main questions for you will be the question of domestication. In order for the animal to socialize well, it is recommended to take a young ferret at the age of two months.
Instructions
Step 1
The young ferret is curious, playful and easily makes contact with the owner, gets used to it. You need to be prepared for the fact that the owner will have to spend several hours a day in communication and games with the animal. A ferret, accustomed to hands from an early age, should not show aggression. And yet, having played, he can bite, and quite tangibly. In this case, the ferret must be punished in appropriate ways: to hiss at him, as the khorikha mother does to her puppies when she is dissatisfied with something; shout loudly; stop the game and return the animal to the cage; If you have water on hand, you can spray it on the muzzle. You can still click the ferret on the nose, but in this case there is a risk that he will be afraid of you. Any punishment should not be cruel, otherwise the effect from it will be the opposite of what you are trying to achieve: the ferret will be afraid of people, and fear, as you know, generates aggression. Ferrets are intelligent, well-bred animals. With a consistent policy of punishment after each bite, a small puppy can be weaned from biting in about a week.
Step 2
If you have brought in an adult and wild animal, get ready to spend extra time and effort on taming it. In order not to stress the ferret, you will have to act gradually. The ferret will not be imbued with trust in the new owner overnight, so initially you should not squeeze and caress the animal unnecessarily. You need to start small, and the ferret is best left to initiate the relationship.
Step 3
The success and speed of taming will depend on how comfortable the ferret lives with you, how much the owner knows and satisfies his needs, so you should not disturb the animal while eating and sleeping: soon the ferret will adapt to your daily routine - it will sleep when you are on work and wake up when you get home. It is also important to eliminate any annoying influences, such as loud noises that ferrets do not like, sudden movements that the animal may be frightened of. And remember the golden rule: patience and affection can do much more than impatience and anger.
