How correctly the piglets are chosen will determine their growth and the owner's profit. Animals of spring farrowing grow best. Autumn piglets will take much more feed and time to reach industrial maturity. If animals are taken to a tribe, the best option is purebred breeds. For fattening, it is better to take a cross, since they are stronger and less susceptible to diseases.
It is necessary
- - wooden boxes for transportation;
- - straw or hay for bedding.
Instructions
Step 1
If the pigs are bought for a tribe, it is best to make a purchase in a breeding farm, where their purebredness is guaranteed and related mating, which takes place in private farmsteads, is excluded. Very well suited to the tribe of the breed: Landrace, large white and Vietnamese pot-bellied, which is gaining more and more popularity due to its rapid growth and predominant herbivorous diet.
Step 2
A sow of a large white breed brings from 12 to 16 piglets 2-3 times a year, which several times justifies its maintenance. When choosing, it must be borne in mind that purebred piglets are weaker and more susceptible to diseases, in contrast to a crossbreed.
Step 3
You need to buy piglets for two months. If animals are removed from the sow early, they grow worse and, moreover, do not know how to eat on their own, and a change in diet can cause indigestion, from which purchased piglets most often die.
Step 4
Inspect the piglet carefully before purchasing. A healthy animal should have clean, shiny eyes, a crochet tail. Also, the fact that the pig is healthy is evidenced by its mobility and loud squeal if it is picked up.
Step 5
Piglets with a long body and high legs grow best. Therefore, you need to carefully examine the animal. Even from the same farrowing, the same sow can have different piglets, especially if the litter was large, and the stronger animals were always at the milkiest front teats. This will significantly affect their growth in the future.
Step 6
In purebred Landrace, the ears close the eyes, and the head and body are almost level. The body itself is long, the legs are high. If the eyes are not closed by the ears, and there is a notch between the head and the body, and you are told that these are purebreds, do not believe it. This is, at best, a cross and not very suitable for a tribe.
Step 7
If the pig is lethargic, the tail hangs down and is wet, it is better to refuse the purchase, since he has an obvious indigestion and, as already mentioned above, this is the most common cause of death of small pigs.
Step 8
When planning to carry on greasy fattening, you need to buy piglets with short legs, plump and round. Greasy breeds quickly stop growing and begin to gain weight and fat.
