Step 1
Purchase a special plastic tray for your rat. It is not recommended to take a glass one, as it is easy to break and the animal can be injured. It is also better not to take metal baths, because during the washing process, the rat begins to scratch the metal with its claws, unpleasant sounds are obtained that frighten the animal even more.
Step 2
Pour some warm water into the container - its amount should not exceed five centimeters. The temperature of the water can be checked by lowering your elbow into the bath. If you are hot, add some cold water.

Put the rat in the water, but do not let it go, otherwise it will run away. Wait a while for the animal to get used to this environment. And gently start wetting the rat fur. Do not make sudden movements or splash water on the animal's eyes and ears.

In slow circular motions, begin to apply the product to the coat. You can use shampoo for puppies and kittens, the product is also suitable for ferrets, but, in no case, do not wash the rat with your shampoo or regular soap, as it contains substances that are harmful to the animal's health.

Massage the rodent's fur a little and gently rinse it with clean water in order to remove any remaining shampoo. Make sure that foam and water do not get into the animal's eyes, ears and nose.

Wrap the animal in a towel and dry its fur. Do not put him right there in the cage, but wait until he dries a little on your hands.

If the coat gets greasy very quickly, then use the next method. Take a regular washcloth, lightly wet it with warm water and rub the animal's back with it. Such rubbing dries the skin much less than a regular bath, which means that this procedure can be done several times a month.
