It's great to have a hamster as a pet, but if you teach it a variety of tricks, it can be even more fun to interact with. The process of training a hamster is quite simple and takes a little time.
Instructions
Step 1
Hamster training will not work if he is afraid of you. Give him time to get used to you, talk in front of him so that he is not afraid of your voice. Wait for the moment when he will safely leave his cage. Gradually accustom him to your hands. If you are feeding him seeds or cereals, feed them straight from your hands. More often take him in your arms and stroke him, over time he himself will begin to ask you.
Step 2
Start with simple tricks like hind leg stance. Hold the treat directly over his head, wait until he rises on his hind legs. At this moment, say the command "Stand", repeat this word over and over again, while the hamster stands on its hind legs. Remember to reward him after every workout like this. Over time, the hamster will perform the trick, responding only to a voice command, but do not forget that every time he will wait for a reward from you.
Step 3
The next trick is to turn in place 180 degrees. Training follows the same principle as in the case of the hind leg stand. Place the food on the back of the hamster, he will turn to reach it. At this point, give him a command, for example, "Turn around", repeat the command over and over again, reward him after each completed turn. Gradually move on to the trick, giving only a voice command, without putting food on the back of the hamster.
Step 4
Quite often, hamsters gnaw on things that are not intended for this. If your hamster does this, give him a clear and loud "No" command. Once the hamster is distracted, reward him with food. Try not to feed him too often after each trick.
Step 5
Another common trick is that the hamster climbs on his shoulder at the command of the owner. This trick is not difficult to teach. Place the hamster on your shoulder and give it time to get used to the spot. Do this for a few days until he is comfortable. Now take the food and place it on your shoulder while holding the hamster in your hand. The hamster will climb on your shoulder in search of food. As a result, you don't need food to do this trick.
