Gerbils are very comfortable to keep in captivity. These cute and funny animals quickly get used to people, are unpretentious and do not have a specific smell, unlike many other rodents. Like all animals, gerbils need to be bathed, but this must be done in a completely unusual way.
It is necessary
- - sand for chinchillas;
- - small capacity;
- - a special comb or toothbrush;
- - a damp cloth.
Instructions
Step 1
You cannot wash gerbils in water, as they do not tolerate moisture well and can quickly get sick. If your pet's fur looks sloppy and has stopped shining, arrange a sand bath for him. The animal will swim in the sand with great pleasure, and its skin will become clean again and begin to shine.
Step 2
Purchase special sand for chinchillas at the pet store. Put it in a small bowl and place it in the cage with your gerbils. After 30-40 minutes, the container must be removed. If the sand is left for a longer time, the rodents will use it as a toilet.
Step 3
Place a bowl of sand at least twice a week. This will keep the skin and fur of the animal in good condition. Remove contaminated sand gradually and refill with clean sand.
Step 4
For gerbils who do not want to swim on their own, gently rub them with sand or talcum powder. In extreme cases, the fur can be slightly moistened with warm water from a spray bottle, just make sure that the water does not get into the eyes and ears of the pet.
Step 5
If your gerbil is very dirty and the sand bath does not help, gently wipe the dirty fur with a damp cloth or a damp cotton pad, and then do not forget to thoroughly dry the animal with a terry towel.
