Caracals are unusual representatives of the feline family. Traditionally these animals are called "steppe lynxes". Despite the fact that caracals live in the wild nature of Africa and Asia, they are bred as pets in various parts of the world. These cats take root in any conditions, and they began to tame in ancient times.

Instructions

Step 1

All owners of caracals should understand that this animal is a predator. Even the ancient Persians tamed unusual lynxes to use in hunting. When kept at home, the cat needs to create the most favorable conditions, therefore it is especially recommended to settle them not in cramped apartments, but in spacious outdoor enclosures.

Step 2

The caracal needs movement. The living conditions for keeping these animals are not suitable, first of all, in terms of size. The cat is capable of jumping up to four meters. This feature, combined with a weight reaching 15-17 kg, can cause a real pogrom in the interior.

Step 3

The caracal feeds exclusively on animal food. Under natural conditions, cats eat rodents, small animals or ungulates. Often they do not miss the opportunity to catch a reptile or ravage a bird's nest. At home, the main component of the caracal diet is any meat and fish. Additionally, vitamins and minerals are added to the food, which are necessary to replenish the supply of nutrients in the animal's body.

Step 4

Caracal training is not difficult. Animals instantly understand the requirements of the owner, quickly get used to leashes and try to follow the rules of staying in an apartment. However, the instinct to sharpen claws, like most cats, is also present in caracals. That is why special scratching posts are made for the animal. Otherwise, the furniture will be damaged quite significantly.

Step 5

Buying caracals from hands is highly discouraged. This should be done only in specialized stores or nurseries. The fact is that specialists from early childhood begin the process of training wild cats to be affectionate and obedient. If you catch a wild caracal and try to tame it, then this process can take many years.

Step 6

At home, caracals are able to get along with any pets. The main exceptions are rodents and birds. The cat will perceive a hamster, guinea pig or parrot as prey and will definitely try to feast on it. There are cases when animals do not show interest in such neighbors, but it is better not to risk it.
