Horses are very demanding on the quality of feed. Frozen, moldy or contaminated feed should not be fed. To determine the amount of feed, you need to take into account a number of factors: the physiological state of the horse, the intensity of the work on which it is used and, of course, the state of the environment and conditions of detention.
It is necessary
Hay, spring straw, concentrates, carrots, grass, table salt, root crops, dry feed, oats, barley
Instructions
Step 1
A sweaty and hot horse must not be released into the pasture. First, you should let it rest and cool for 30-40 minutes.
Step 2
If feed is given 3 times a day, it should be distributed as follows: most of the roughage is given in the evening, in the morning a little less, at noon, remembering that the break for eating and digesting feed for the horse is short, even less than in the morning. Concentrated food is given in the same amount at noon and in the morning, and more at night.
Step 3
You can make special dietary porridge. At the rate of 10 horses, 10 kg of rolled oats, 75 g of salt, 500 g of flaxseed are taken and all this is placed in a tub or trough (a dense box is also suitable) and filled with boiling water so that the feed is saturated with water. Without stirring, 5 kg of wheat bran are poured on top in an even layer. Then the box, covered to keep warm, is left for 2-3 hours. Before serving such food, it is thoroughly mixed. Due to its slightly laxative nature, it is better to give such food in the evening.
Step 4
It will be most correct to give feed as follows: first hay, then beets or carrots (juicy feed), and, at the very end, concentrates. If you do the opposite, the horse will eat food very greedily, chewing it poorly, which can cause colic and bloating.
Step 5
If you need to make changes in the feed ration, then this should be done gradually. Otherwise, the horse, whose body cannot quickly adapt to the new food, will have a digestive upset. To completely transfer to a new feed without harm to health, it will take about 10 days. Replacing concentrates with new ones, they should be given in an increasing amount, mixing with old ones. The proportion of the old feed should be reduced until it is completely replaced with a new one.
Step 6
Since the horses' need for water is very high, they should be given plenty of water. A horse involved in heavy work can drink up to 50-60 liters of water per day. The amount of liquid consumed is influenced by the air temperature, its humidity, the season, the intensity of the load, the water content in the feed, as well as the properties of the water itself and the individual needs of the animal.
Step 7
If there is not enough liquid, the horse may refuse dry food. It is necessary to water the animal at least 4 times a day, and in hot weather - up to 7 times. A sweaty and hot horse must not be watered. It is necessary to wait 1-2 hours and then give water with hay poured into it.
