Summer heat is hard not only for people, but also for our pets. Pets, as well as people, have a very hard time in the heat. To help avoid health problems for our smaller brothers in hot weather, consider the following tips:
Instructions
Step 1
Be carefull:
On very hot days, try to observe the condition of the animals. An animal, as well as a person, can get heatstroke. The symptoms of heatstroke in animals are as follows:
rapid breathing, lethargy, increased body temperature, drooling, shaky gait, lack of response to the owner's voice, convulsions.
If you suspect that your pet is struggling and unwell, then seek help from your veterinarian.
Step 2
Provide the animal with access to plenty of drinking water. Do not splash ice water on the animal. To relieve the condition, you can wipe the forehead of the animal with a damp cloth. Walk your dog during hot weather in the morning hours, before it's too hot. Watch out for windows, as an animal weakened by the heat could fall out of an open window.
Step 3
Do not leave the cage with rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs on the window, as they overheat very quickly and can die within an hour. Provide fresh air in the cage, but do not leave it in a draft or near an air conditioner. If the rodent is sick from the heat, then wrap it in a damp cloth or apply a compress on the head.
Step 4
If you have aquarium fish, be sure to add water to your aquarium every day. Turn on the aerator more often and at full power. Don't overfeed your fish. You can place a bottle of ice water on the bottom of the aquarium to cool the water.
Step 5
If you are keeping birds, then do not leave the cage in a draft. Watch for water in drinkers and bathing tins. You can spray the birds with a spray bottle. But watch out for the temperature of the water, it should not be cold. If the bird has become lethargic and symptoms of overheating are observed, then move the cage to a cool place and apply a cool compress to the bird's head.
