Despite their name, animals such as guinea pigs absolutely do not know how to swim, for this reason they should not be bathed in a bathtub filled with water, and even more so in an open body of water.

Guinea pigs are washed only when necessary. Long-haired more often, short-haired less often. Most pigs tolerate bathing quite calmly. But only if some rules are followed.

For bathing, you need to pour water 20-25 degrees into a small bowl, 1-2 degrees warmer than the temperature in the room. There should be enough water so that it hides only the legs and tummy of the guinea pig, that is, about 2-4 cm.

After that, in a separate bowl or mug, lightly beat the shampoo, it is better to use baby or other hypoallergenic, marked "no tears". Apply the resulting foam to the slightly damp hair of the guinea pig, carefully observing that the shampoo does not get into the eyes and ears of the pet. Soap is not recommended. Guinea pigs have very delicate skin and soap dries it out.

Then the mumps must be rinsed thoroughly. Watering should be done from a mug, a ladle, and not under the shower, with a tap. The animal may get scared or the water will get where it is not allowed.

After bathing, the guinea pig is wrapped in a towel and left in it until dry. If the temperature in the room is below 17-19 C, then the pig is dried with a hairdryer or placed under a lamp.

When the pig is nervous while bathing, makes sounds that mean fear, danger, then you can put your pet's favorite food next to the bowl in which it is washed. This often helps.
