But what if the animal is small? For example, a guinea pig? If you fully and completely rely on the knowledge and experience of the seller, there is a risk after a while to discover that our cute fluffy Herman has turned into Gertrude. So how do you determine the gender of your guinea pig yourself?

Step 1
Take the young guinea pig in your arms and flip it onto its back. In young guinea pigs, sex differences are less noticeable, since the organs have not yet fully formed.
Step 2
Examine the distance between the anus and the animal's urethra. In males, it is noticeably larger. But this method does not give one hundred percent guarantee, since here you have to rely only on your own eye.
Step 3
Determine the sex of an already grown guinea pig in a more radical way. Take the guinea pig by the back with your palm and turn it belly up. Press your finger down on your lower abdomen - lightly at first, then harder. At the same time, in females, the genital slit becomes noticeable, expanding towards the stomach and narrowing towards the anus. And in males in this way, you can grope the penis, which becomes visible over time.
Step 4
Take the next step in sexing your guinea pig. Turn the animal upside down. There is another small opening near the anus. Gently press the foreskin against the abdomen. Remove the genital mucosa by pulling the fold of the skin towards the base. With these actions, you will be able to see either the penis, which presents a slight bulge above the anus, or you will get most of the mucous membrane from the females.
Step 5
Take a closer look at the guinea pig's appearance. In adults, the differences are obvious: males are much larger than females, they have high withers and strong bones. By the presence of nipples, the sex of guinea pigs cannot be distinguished, since they are present in both females and males.
