Miniature dogs have found a lot of admirers. It is very convenient to keep such a pet in a city apartment - it does not require a lot of space, and the dog can even be taught to walk in the tray like a cat. The smallest dogs on the planet are Chihuahuas.
Chihuahua history
Chihuahua is the smallest breed of dog. Its adult representatives weigh three kilograms, and the smallest weigh no more than five hundred grams. These crumbs come from Mexico, where their distant ancestors were considered sacred animals by the Indians. It is believed that the modern breed came about thanks to the crossing of its Mexican ancestor - the Techichi dog - with the Chinese crested, who arrived in Central America on Spanish ships, where they successfully exterminated rats.
In the 19th century, travel to Mexico became fashionable among wealthy European tourists. There, Europeans drew attention to the locals selling tiny dogs. After the first individuals appeared in the Old World and were presented to the public, they quickly gained popularity due to their diminutive size and pretty appearance. Since then, Chihuahuas have acquired more and more new fans.
Chihuahua in Russia
Chihuahuas appeared in Russia thanks to the Cuban-Soviet friendship of peoples. Fidel Castro personally gave Nikita Khrushchev two dogs with excellent pedigree. Khrushchev's daughter handed the dogs over to a close family friend, Evgenia Zharova (she later bred a Russian toy terrier). It was Evgenia who became the first breeder of the breed in the USSR.
Chihuahua's appearance is deceiving
Outwardly, Chihuahuas are very pretty. These tiny dogs have large expressive eyes and large ears, often covered with long hair. However, these miniature animals have an independent and rather grumpy nature. They do not like children and often become leaders in homes where there are other animals, subjugating their larger counterparts. Chihuahuas are fast, energetic and graceful. Observing these dogs can give the impression that they are not aware of their size. The animal is able to easily pounce on a cat or a large dog. Chihuahua is a loyal pet. They are very attached to the hosts, but can be somewhat hostile towards guests they do not know well. These dogs are great for single people who spend a lot of time at home. The dogs will be happy to accompany the owner, sit on his lap while he reads a book, sleep with him in the same bed.
The smallest chihuahua
To date, the smallest dog is considered the Chihuahua Milli, who lives in Puerto Rico. Due to a certain illness, Millie stopped growing when she was still a puppy. Today, the growth of the crumbs is 9, 65 centimeters, and the weight is only 400 grams.
