Pugs, despite their modest size, have a truly proud and sometimes warlike disposition, especially in males. Until your friend is one year old, you can calmly and fearlessly let large adult dogs "get acquainted" with him. It is even recommended, since communication with other dogs is essential for the normal development of the animal's psyche. After all, you do not want your dog to be afraid of everyone and everything in the future, simply because he never came close to other dogs in childhood. If you do not see any signs of aggression when meeting another dog, then calmly stand nearby, let them “sniff”, especially since for adult males your puppy is not dangerous as a rival and he will never become the subject of aggression for another healthy male.
I will make a reservation once again, for a healthy dog, that is, not with foam at the mouth of a racing and growling one, namely an ordinary dog, even a street one. Most adult dogs enjoy playing with puppies and thus help them become friendly and sociable, rather than cowardly and fearful. Puppies can only cause aggression in whelps. Therefore, be careful and try not to admit adult females, especially if they have pronounced mammary glands.
It is also not recommended, for the same reason, to walk in the habitats of dog packs, because there may be whelped bitches and this can provoke an attack on you and your pet. After a year, your puppy will become almost an adult male and may start showing aggression towards larger males, as happened with mine. This, of course, always looks comical from the outside, but it can be dangerous if the other dog is not on a leash. Apparently, they really say that pugs in their hearts consider themselves lions, since in the case of excessive familiarity on the part of larger dogs, they fearlessly rush into a fight, growling and protruding their proud breasts.
More than once I had to drag my Leo away from large males, dumbfounded by such behavior. Another danger to the pug can be cats. They can accidentally injure your puppy's eyes, and since the pug's eyes and noses are sore spots, this can lead to long-term healing of various infections. Why am I talking about cats. It would seem that cats and dogs do not really get along and cats should not come close to walking dogs, but we are talking about pugs. The fact is that for more than 6 years, walking with my dog, I often noticed how cats follow us for several blocks, some come close and try to smell. Several times the same cat ran up and licked my dog in the face. Perhaps cats mistake pugs for their fellows, who knows what is on their minds.
I would like to say a few words about toys for puppies. Beware of crumbling soft balls and pug animals can simply gnaw it into dust, and since we do not know for certain that the material of such toys is safe, it is better not to buy such things. And a very important point - do not play tug with pugs for up to a year, that is, do not take handkerchiefs, twisted rope toys from their mouths, this will seriously deform the dog's bite and can lead to further malformation of the jaws.
