Dachshund is a breed of hunting burrowing dogs that can get along well in an ordinary city apartment. This is a funny, friendly dog with a real sense of humor and a tendency to play pranks. You will hardly be bored with a dachshund - it is a great companion for games and walks. In addition, these dogs are clean, practically have no undercoat - their coat does not cause allergies, and it is easy to travel with them. This breed has many virtues. It remains only to choose a puppy.
Instructions
Step 1
Even if you are purchasing a dog not to participate in shows, look at a few litters. The first thing you should pay attention to is the state of the litter, whether the mother and puppies are kept clean. They should be well-groomed with no signs of malnutrition. You should like not only the puppy, but also his mother. It is not a fact that he will grow like her like two drops of water. If the mother is a champion, there is no guarantee that the puppies will also be champions and successfully participate in exhibitions.
Step 2
Determine what gender you want the dog, a girl or a boy you want. Males are usually larger than females, especially in large breed dachshunds. Boys grow up more active, stubborn, have a desire to dominate, but on the hunt they show better results. Bitches are in heat twice a year for 3 weeks. By nature, they are more docile and gentle, and, moreover, not as sexually anxious as males.
Step 3
Examine the droppings. The chosen puppy should not be hyperactive, but it should not fall asleep in the arms of a stranger either. His skin should be shiny, he himself - well-fed, but not thick. Inspect and feel the tail - there should be no kinks or seals on it. Turn over on the back. The tummy is soft to the touch and the umbilical ring does not stand out - this is good. Check the paws, press the pads, look between the "toes" - the skin and hair on them should be dry and clean. Dachshunds have 4 toes on their hind legs, but if there are 5, then it's okay, they do not interfere with dogs.
Step 4
Now take a look at the baby's face. His eyes should be clear, dry and clean, without discharge and not festering. Ears - odorless, dry and clean, nose - wet and clean. These are signs that the puppy is healthy. By 1, 5-2 months, when puppies are sold, they should already have teeth, check that the bite is correct.
Step 5
A puppy from a breeder must be branded. The brand is usually placed on the groin crease or on the inner surface of the ear. Make sure it matches the puppy card.
