Often the dog begins to vomit with foam for no apparent reason. If vomiting occurs once, owners do not have to worry, as healthy dogs often eat grass, deliberately causing themselves to vomit in order to cleanse the stomach. However, if vomiting is persistent, this is a reason to contact your veterinarian and find out the cause of the ailment.
Causes of dog vomiting
Frequent vomiting, accompanied by loss of appetite, increased sleepiness, constipation, diarrhea, depression and dehydration, signals a dog's health problems. It can be caused by inappropriate or poor-quality food, eating by the dog of food waste, the presence of foreign bodies in the stomach, as well as distemper, enteritis and other viral infections. Vomiting of blood occurs with diabetes, cancer, or ulcers. The most common causes of vomiting in dogs are diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, poisoning with home medicines or pesticides, and severe stress.
If the dog constantly eats grass and vomits at the same time, the cause may be parasitic infestations in the animal's body.
Vomiting on an empty stomach or immediately after eating may indicate gastritis, while vomiting a few hours after eating is characteristic of a foreign body or neoplasm in the stomach. Exhausting vomiting indicates pancreatitis, cholecystitis, or hepatic colic. Vomiting with diarrhea, causing exhaustion and dehydration of the body, is a sign of infectious diseases. Vomiting that smells of ammonia may indicate kidney failure or uremia.
Treating vomiting in dogs. What to do in this case?
If the dog suddenly begins to vomit with foam, and there is no way to get to the veterinarian quickly, certain rules must be followed when treating the animal. First of all, you need to cleanse the body of possible toxic or irritating substances. For 24 hours, the dog should not be given water and food, allowing it to lick ice cubes. If vomiting stops after a few hours, a small amount of chicken broth can be given to the animal. On the second day, you can add fresh and liquid foods to the diet - for example, puree from white chicken meat or turkey breast.
Food should be given in small portions 4 to 6 times a day, adding fresh herbs and brown rice to them, which will help hold the stomach together with diarrhea.
Regular products are allowed to be added to mashed potatoes only on the third day. Of the drugs, the dog can be given drugs such as "Nosh-pa", "Papaverine", "Smecta", "Cerucal" or "Omez". They will calm the vomiting center in the brain and relieve painful spasms from the gastrointestinal tract. Additional treatment can be carried out with herbs and homeopathy, but it is advisable to consult a qualified specialist before using them.
