The correct organization of space in a budgerigar cage is the key to the health and long life of birds. It is important to get a good cage initially. It should be rectangular (longer than tall) and spacious enough. If you place two perches opposite each other, the bird should fly over without touching the lattice with its wings.
Instructions
Step 1
It is very important not to overload the cage with objects. Every centimeter of space must be used rationally. The perches that were in the cage at the time of purchase can be thrown away immediately. Usually, the kit comes with plastic crossbars, which can cause injuries to the legs of parrots or the appearance of corns. The perches should be made of wood. The diameter of each of them is about 10-15 millimeters. It is better to place them not along the long side of the cage, but perpendicularly. The perch should be removed from the side wall by 12-15 centimeters so that the bird does not touch the lattice with its tail and does not break feathers.
Step 2
If you have one or two parrots, it is enough for them to buy one drinker. It is better to choose plastic closed containers. Every pet store has suitable drinkers in a variety of sizes and configurations. The drinker should be positioned close to the topmost perches to keep feathers and droppings out of the water. It is worth changing the water in the drinking bowl once a day, and in the summer 3-4 times a day.
Step 3
Feeders are usually located on the lower tier of the cage, almost at the very bottom. Budgerigars are not clean at all. They eat the grain and scatter the husk or leave it in the trough. A slight flap of wings - and all the debris scatters around the room. To avoid this, you should buy cages with a high side. At the bottom of the cage, there should be both feeders: one for the main grain feed, the other for cereals or salads.
Step 4
The location of the mineral stone or sepia tone is not particularly important for budgies. Birds require special substances they contain, and therefore your pet will always find a useful pebble on the cage bars.
Step 5
When setting up a budgerigar cage, it is important not to overdo it with toys. One ladder, swing and bell are ideal. You can also hang plastic climbing rings. When the owners are not at home, the bird in the cage will find something to do with itself. It is better to place the main arsenal of toys for budgies on a special stand in the room, where the birds will fly while walking around the apartment.
Step 6
The herb and fruit holders are best positioned near the door. Budgerigars are very fond of juicy fresh fruits and vegetables, field herbs and often destroy them in a matter of minutes. It is important to attach the holder so that it can be removed or replaced quickly enough without disturbing the birds too much.
Step 7
In the correct arrangement of the cage, free space is important. Birds should not fight each other for the free upper perches, and the lower tier should be spacious and safe enough to avoid injury.
