The guinea pig feels much better in company. Guinea pigs behave more interestingly in the company of their own kind. For one or two pigs, the cage should be at least 90 x 40 x 38 cm in size. If there are three animals, the length of the cage should be increased by 15 cm.

Don't forget that the guinea pig is a rodent. The material from which the cage will be made must be resistant to chewing. It is best if the walls of the cage are made of strong nickel-plated metal rods. You can use plexiglass or other synthetic materials to make a house. He must have low legs.

The bottom of the cage should be made of an easily washable material. Strong plastic is best. It is very convenient if the rodent dwelling has a double perforated bottom. This will make it easier to care for the animals, and the bedding will be less dirty.

Sprinkle the cage floor with wood shavings or hardwood sawdust. The resin of coniferous trees is harmful to pigs. Do not put torn newspapers in the cage, they contain printing ink that can poison the animal.

Be sure to install a house in which your pig will rest. It shouldn't have a bottom to make it easier for you to clean it. You can hang a hammock, a shelf or a pipe in the cage. It will be more interesting for you to observe the animal.

A second floor can be arranged in a guinea pig cage. The main thing is that the overlap is not made of mesh material. The pig may stumble and injure its paws. The ascent to the top should also be convenient for your pet: rather gentle and stable. The guinea pig is not a decorative rat, it does not like to climb over grates.

Do not cage a running wheel. Mumps can easily injure the spine. It is better to let the animal walk around the room once a day. During this time, the cage can be ventilated and cleaned.

The pig will easily turn a regular drinker. On a wet litter, the animal can easily catch a cold. Therefore, install an upside-down bottle drinker with a ball valve in the cage.

The feeder should also be heavy enough. The best choice is high quality ceramics. Some huts have retractable feeders that can be easily cleaned from the outside.

Put hay for rodents in a special nursery that is attached to the rods of the cage. In this case, the grass will not be scattered around the cage and will not suffer from animal secretions.

Set up the cage in a warm, well-lit area, protected from drafts. Do not place it close to heating appliances, bright lights, or a TV.
