Achatina are truly unique creatures. This type of snail is considered one of the largest land molluscs. With proper maintenance at home, it can reach a length of 20 cm. Many owners of these snails are interested in the question of how to equip a dwelling for the Achatina snail.
The shell in Achatina snails is conical, in adults it has 7 - 9 coils. The color of the shell depends on what you feed them, hereditary traits and other living conditions of the mollusk.
This type of snails does not require a special terrarium, you can even take an old, leaking aquarium, which was going to be thrown away, because it will not need to be poured into it. Choose the volume at the rate of 10 liters per one clam. Also think about how you will cover the snails' dwelling, because without a cover on the aquarium, they will go on a journey through your apartment. And do not forget that snails also breathe, if you seal them tightly, they will suffocate.
It is better to buy soil for the bottom at a pet store, for example, a coconut substrate is suitable for snails. We fill it with a layer, approximately 7-10 cm thick. Peat, which is sold in flower shops, is not suitable as a soil, since it contains a lot of fertilizers that are harmful to Achatina. Snails won't like sawdust either. But the forest floor, without coniferous needles, is what you need. Just do not forget to boil it and wet it a little before laying it in the terrarium, because it is the soil that will create the necessary moisture. Also, the softness of the litter will save the shell, and possibly the animal itself, if it accidentally falls from the wall of the aquarium.
In addition, it would be nice to place a saucer of water in the terrarium, since snails love to swim.
Follow all the rules for keeping pets, and they will grow to your delight!
