Parrots, especially young ones, are quite mobile and active birds, which are bored to sit for many hours in a cage. Even if you often release your pet to the wild, you need to make sure that his house has everything you need: not only a feeder and drinker, but also perches, swings, stairs, toys.
Necessary items in the cage
Each cage for a parrot should have a mandatory set of items that a bird needs for a healthy life. First of all, this is a feeder. Parrots find it inconvenient to eat from a platter, so it is advisable to buy him a special bowl. When choosing, pay attention to the material: porcelain and earthenware are considered high-quality and hygienic, you can also buy a cheaper plastic feeder.
The bird must have constant access to water, so one or more drinkers must be installed. Such devices of a closed type are more convenient, in them the water is not polluted. If you choose an open drinker, keep an eye on the purity of the water in it: as soon as droppings get into it, you need to immediately replace the water, otherwise harmful ammonia will be released. Do not put large open drinkers for your pet, otherwise he will start swimming in them.
Equip the parrot with a bath - a small bath where he could bathe from time to time. He must perform bath procedures at least once a week. The size of the bath depends on the size of the bird, but it should fit freely in it. Pour warm clean water into the bath, and after the procedures, pour it out so that the parrot does not start drinking it.
Fun for the parrot
Parrots spend most of their life on branches, so they need to equip them in a cage with similar conditions. To do this, fix several perches inside, preferably wooden, made of soft rocks. Birds love to nibble on twigs, and they especially like perches with buds. Make sure they are well secured and do not rotate when the parrot sits on them.
Most parrot breeds are very active, they like to move, climb the cage, explore new corners. Try to install more different devices inside: stairs, perches, swings. But do not forget that there should be a lot of free space. All objects on which the pet will sit must be wooden: it can chew on plastic things, and this is unhealthy.
Buy a few toys for the parrot: a bell, a mirror, a ring that hangs from the ceiling of the cage. The bird will love any object that makes sounds or moves. From time to time, bring your pet fresh branches of deciduous trees, which are rich in minerals and vitamins that are beneficial for birds.
It is very important not only to properly equip the cage, but also to keep it clean. Wash it as often as possible, clean the pallet every day, do a general cleaning once a month - change old branches, wipe all the branches with chamomile broth.
