Guppy is an unusually beautiful, interesting and unpretentious aquarium fish. This type of fish is characterized by great adaptability. Aquarium guppies are quite popular for their colorful and vibrant coloration.
Instructions
Step 1
Perhaps even the most experienced aquarists cannot tell with accuracy what guppies look like in their natural habitat. They are no longer caught in the wild, as breeders have bred a whole variety of species of these fish. They are so beautiful that it is difficult to give preference to one type of guppy.
Step 2
Females of guppies, unlike males, have a nondescript color, sometimes grow up to six centimeters. Males, on the other hand, are distinguished by their bright, unusually beautiful and attractive coloration. The length of males usually does not exceed three to four centimeters (in rare cases, males are even larger).
Step 3
Some species of female guppies are gray in color, with yellow, red or black spots on the fins in rare cases. The narrow and small body of the male is covered with multi-colored spots. Coal dots and strokes, gold, green, red, silver, violet and blue spots are formed into beautiful patterns, passing to the caudal and dorsal fins. All patterns shimmer, shine and glow. And the most interesting thing is that the drawings are not repeated, each male has his own individual color. The dorsal fin of a guppy can be square, triangular, round. It can hang down in a long braid or be pulled out into a long ribbon.
Step 4
The aquarium must be planted with small-leaved plants, the water temperature must be maintained at 20-28 ° C and the fish must be fed with cut bloodworms or cyclops, then breeding success will be ensured. In such favorable conditions, the female guppy lays her fry every 3-6 weeks all year round. By the way, guppies are viviparous fish, instead of caviar, they throw fry that are formed and ready to eat right away. The number of fry depends on the feeding and size of the female. Young individuals bring from 10 to 12 fry, old ones can throw up to a hundred pieces.
Step 5
Guppies are bad parents, they can easily eat their cubs if they are hungry. Therefore, if you want to get offspring, you must transplant the female before giving birth in a separate vessel with a large number of plants. As soon as the female has hatched the fry, she should be sent back to the aquarium. Keep the fry container clean and change the water periodically. Pay attention to the living conditions of the fish. Poor water quality, lack of oxygen and high fish density in the aquarium can increase aggression. In this case, it is necessary to improve the conditions for the existence of pets.
