Maine Coon is a large feline. Powerful constitution, large head and legs, almond-shaped slanting eyes, bushy tail, tassels on the ears - these features are inherent in this breed.
Representatives of this breed are very interesting both in appearance and character. These cats appeared in the northern state of Maine, but researchers still cannot figure out how they got there. According to one version, Marie Antoinette, having fled to America, took with her several large cats with long hair. Another legend tells us about the navigator Charles Kuhn, who took his pets with him. Appearing on the shores of New England, cats mated with local felines, which led to the emergence of a new breed.
More accurate information about cats appears in the middle of the 19th century, namely in 1861, when at the British exhibition a participant presented a "raccoon cat" from America. The calm feline was a great success. But, unfortunately, by the end of the 19th century, the fashion for this breed began to wane and it would have died out, but the Men’s farmers, who protected their crops from pests with the help of Maine Coons, prevented this. In Russia, these animals appeared in the early 90s.
The animal's appearance is unique. A large body, strong limbs, a wide chest, a long tail and tassels on the ears are the distinctive features of the Maine Coon. An adult weighs about 9-12 kilograms.
Maine Coons are friendly in nature, do not show aggression. Despite its size, this animal is affectionate and gentle, loves children. Although cats do not like to sit in their arms, they will be happy to be around all the time, because they can not stand loneliness at all.
The pet's playful activity persists for many years, so it is very important to maintain this lifestyle, walk in the fresh air, and play outdoor games. Cats have high intelligence, which allows them to train many commands.
