Dogs, like humans, get sick from time to time. And while common food poisoning can be alleviated with pills and a special diet, more serious illnesses require drugs to be administered with a syringe. It's good when you need to give 2-3 injections and the veterinary hospital is not far from you. But what if your four-legged friend needs frequent daily injections? Do not be discouraged, learning to give a dog an injection in the withers on your own is not such a difficult task.

It is necessary

medicine, syringe, water for injection, cotton wool, alcohol

Instructions

Step 1

An important condition is sterility. Do not think that sterilization of hands and devices is important only for a person during various medical procedures. Be sure to wash your hands with soap and water before giving your dog an injection. Also prepare sterile cotton wool, an alcohol solution, and a container of medicine. Please note that everything you need should be in close proximity so that you do not have to run around the apartment with a syringe in hand, looking for cotton wool or medicine. So, with clean hands, carefully open the package with the syringe and, holding the tip of the needle in the plastic package, insert it onto the base of the syringe.

Step 2

Now draw the medicine into the syringe. If the solution is in the ampoule, open it with a file and draw up the contents with a syringe. If you are dealing with a dry substance that must be dissolved beforehand, fill the syringe with special water for injection and, piercing the rubber cap of the medicine bottle, inject it inside. The needle must be removed and closed again with a cap, and the solution must be shaken until smooth. After the drug is completely dissolved, pierce the cap again with another sterile needle and draw the required amount of the drug into the syringe. When the medicine is drawn into the syringe, make sure that there are no air bubbles left - push the syringe until the medicine appears on the surface of the needle.

Step 3

The most important thing is the injection itself. Feel for the withers - this is where the neck ends and the shoulder blades begin. There are few nerve endings here, and important blood vessels go far, so even if you do something wrong, there will be no harm to the animal from this. So, gather the skin on the withers into a fold with your left hand, and with your right, quickly, with a confident movement, insert the needle into the base of this fold. Do not be afraid to insert the needle too deeply, remember that you must inject the medicine under the skin, and this can be done only if the puncture is not superficial. It is ideal to insert the needle 2/3 of the way, but if you get it deeper, that’s fine too. Now press down on the syringe while continuing to hold the fold in the assembled state. When the syringe is empty, carefully remove the needle and only then straighten the crease at the withers.
