It is noteworthy that the most intelligent representatives of these families are omnivorous species that live in difficult environmental conditions.

Among the family of parrots, predatory kea parrots stand out for their mental abilities. It is believed that kea parrots acquired their mental abilities precisely because of their habitat, since this is the only species of parrots that can survive at an altitude of more than 1500 meters. Kea populations live on the tops of the New Zealand Alps, where they are forced to forage from under the snow. Kea live an amazing life unusual for birds. During the first 3-6 years, young birds do not acquire a family, but prefer to spend time playing with other young parrots, including riding on their backs in the snow, dragging each other by the paws, and so on. Kea are very curious, so any subject of interest to them immediately subjects them to a thorough study. There are frequent cases when parrots literally disassembled cars belonging to gape tourists, removing all rubber elements from the car, including those that fasten the glass. In laboratory conditions, it has been proven that kea can perform very complex tasks, including those involving the collective work of 2 or more individuals.

Ravens are considered the smartest members of the raven family. It has been proven that these birds have a complex hierarchy and communication system within the flock. Surprisingly, the birds arriving from different continents do not understand each other, while inside the flock the adults "teach" the young, there are loud "showdowns", and there are cases when the whole flock, frightening off competitors, uttered sounds of the same tonality. A striking proof of their ability to solve problems is the method of cracking nuts, invented by the Japanese crows. Ravens sit on poles near a pedestrian crossing and throw nuts on the asphalt when a yellow light starts to glow. Next, a red light comes on, and passing cars crack nuts. Ravens begin to pick up tasty pulp only when it becomes safe at the crossing, that is, when the green light turns on.
