Step 1
The first days after you brought a hamster or pig from the store, you should not especially annoy them with your intrusive attention and try to stroke or caress. The animal experiences tremendous stress being in an unfamiliar place. Let the new occupant get comfortable with their home and get used to unusual sounds and smells. But it's also not worth delaying taming. If you don’t handle your hamster for a long time, he will grow wild and start to get scared whenever you want to stroke him or vilify him around the apartment.
Step 2
Particularly shy rodents can sit in their houses for several weeks before daring to crawl out of the shelter during the day and get acquainted with their owners. Try to speed up this process by offering your hamster a treat. If the baby is still afraid to take it out of your hands, there is nothing wrong with that. You can simply put a berry or a nut on the floor of the cage and wait a little. Over time, when the hamster becomes so bold that it will leave the house even when your hand is inside the cage, you can gently stroke it. Your task is to accustom your baby to the smell of his hands so that he stops being afraid of them and takes them for granted.
Step 3
Now you can complicate the experiment and put the treat next to your fingers. If the hamster is not afraid and calmly takes nuts or dried fruits from the floor when your palm is very close, you can safely start treating him with your hands. Just place a small piece on your outstretched index finger and stretch it out to the baby. Even if at first he is wary of this procedure, he will very soon get used to it and will be able to take food and treats from your finger fearlessly.
