Freshwater ampullaria are very popular among lovers of home aquariums. They not only decorate the living area with their exotic appearance, but also clean the walls of the artificial reservoir of excess algae. Feeding aquarium snails is usually straightforward, but there are special rules to follow.

Step 1
In nature, aquarium snails feed primarily on plant foods, so algae with tough, large leaves should be the basis of your pet's diet. It makes no sense to keep delicate expensive plants in an artificial reservoir with ampullaria - mollusks will quickly break them and destroy them. In search of food, snails can turn over the entire bottom soil and dig up small algae with roots.
Step 2
If you put the ampullaria in a large aquarium overgrown with algae, you will not have to feed the clams for a long time. They will cleanse the pond from excess plants. To maintain the biological balance in the aquarium, plant Canadian Elodea after cleaning it of excess vegetation. The emerald net of the leaves of these algae will delight the eye for a long time - it is inedible for snails.
Step 3
To preserve some of the edible aquatic vegetation, you can feed ampullaria with vegetables: spinach, lettuce, fresh cucumber, carrots, cabbage. Products with solid fiber are recommended to be pre-scalded with boiling water or boiled.
Step 4
Aquarium snails are not vegetarians at all, they are virtually omnivorous. Molluscs will be happy to eat food of animal origin, pick up the leftovers from the fish. These are real aquarium orderlies who digest all rotting organic matter. Ampullaria especially respect bloodworms (raspberries), meat and caviar. However, they will not be able to compete with the more nimble inhabitants of an artificial reservoir, so they will never eat them.

In the digestive system of snails, there are many microorganisms that help them absorb a very large amount of food. However, if you overfeed the ampillaria, the water will quickly become cloudy from their waste, even with a good filter. For each pet, select the diet individually - the amount of food should not exceed the body's needs. A proven fact: only those "orderlies" will clean up the aquarium, whom you always underfeed a little.

In the diet of young animals, it is necessary to introduce mashed food for fish, duckweed, lettuce, Riccia and Cyclops scalded in boiling water.
