Budgerigars are very beautiful and funny birds, in addition, they are also talking. But not all females have an oratorical talent, therefore, when choosing a talkative pet, it is important to correctly determine the gender.
Instructions
Step 1
Birds are distinguished by the color of the wax - a thickened area around the nostrils. Up to three months, the wavy parrot wax is about the same color: pale purple, pink or blue. Only females have a light edging around their nostrils, so it's easy for non-specialists to make a mistake.
Step 2
With the onset of puberty, the gum changes its color, in males it acquires a more saturated blue or purple hue, and in females it becomes off-white, beige, brown. In some individuals of budgerigars, it can be very difficult to determine the sex, for example, in albinos. In such males, the wax is light gray in color and does not change with age, so it is easy to confuse them with ordinary females.
Step 3
To more accurately determine the sex of budgies, you should observe the behavior of the birds during the day. Temperature conditions, external pathogens can cause a change in the intensity of the color of the wax. So in young females, the bluish tint becomes bright blue, like in males.
Step 4
Each bird is different, and the approach to sex determination of budgies cannot be the same. Therefore, in addition to all that has been said, you need to pay attention to the behavior inherent in the characteristics of each sex. It is enough to observe the courtship of one bird after another to make sure who is male and who is female.
