The Shar Pei breed appeared in China. Initially, Shar Pei were used by peasants as service dogs. At the end of the 20th century, the rules for keeping dogs became so stricter in China that all Shar Pei were practically exterminated. The breed received a new life thanks to American enthusiasts.
Instructions
Step 1
The Shar Pei is a medium-sized dog with a strong build. The dog's head is quite large in relation to the body. The folds of the skin in the forehead and cheeks gradually move to the dewlap.
Step 2
The skull is flat and wide enough. The transition from the forehead to the muzzle is moderately pronounced. The nose is rather large and wide, the nostrils are wide open.
Step 3
The color of the nose depends on the base color, but the most common nose is black. The muzzle is broad along its entire length from the base to the tip of the nose, which is a distinctive feature of this breed. A bulge is allowed at the base of the nose.
Step 4
The tongue, palate and gums are bluish-black. Sometimes the tongue is pink with spots, but not a solid pink.
Step 5
Jaws powerful, scissor bite. In this case, the row of upper teeth tightly overlaps the row of lower ones. The teeth are located strictly perpendicular to the jaw; in puppyhood, a slight overshot is allowed.
Step 6
The eyes are almond-shaped, dark. The auricles are very small, thick and shaped like an equilateral triangle. At the ends, they are slightly rounded, the tips are directed towards the eyes and pressed against the skull.
Step 7
The neck is of medium length, very strong and set firmly on the shoulders. Skin folds under the neck are moderate. On the body of an adult dog, the presence of folds is unacceptable, except for the areas of the withers and the base of the tail.
Step 8
The back is short and strong. The loin is short and wide, slightly arched. The wide rib cage descends to the elbows.
Step 9
Shar-Pei's tail is thick and round at the base, tapering towards the end. Ideally, it should be set high and twisted into the correct ring. An erect or drooping tail is considered a fault for this breed.
Step 10
The forelegs are straight, of medium length. There are no skin folds on them. The shoulder girdle is muscular, the pasterns are sloping.
Step 11
The hindquarters are well muscled, very strong and moderately angulated. The joint angles are perpendicular to the ground and parallel to each other. The formation of skin folds on the surface of the hind limbs is also unacceptable.
Step 12
The coat is represented by short and coarse hair. The hair is straight, like a stubble. On the limbs, the coat is tighter.
Step 13
Shar-pei have no undercoat. The length of the coat ranges from 1 mm to 2.5 cm.
Step 14
All colors are acceptable except white. In this case, the tail and the back of the thigh are often colored a little lighter, there should not be more spots. The height at the withers for an adult ranges from 44 to 51 cm.
