One of the most pressing concerns of most aquarists is the removal of unwanted algae from the aquarium. Very often all attempts to do this in the shortest possible time turn out to be ineffectual. Every aquarist should be aware that different types of algae should be removed from the aquarium in different ways.

Step 1
Filamentous algae, which are long green threads that cover decorations, soil and large plants, do not interfere with the operation of the aquarium or the fish. But they spoil the aesthetic impression quite strongly. To remove this algae from your aquarium, take a regular fork and screw it around like spaghetti. Remove tougher algae by hand, carefully trimming off the leaves of large plants enveloped in them.
Step 2
Brown algae, as a rule, populate only a new aquarium and disappear on their own a few weeks after emergence. If this does not happen, add small ancist catfish to the aquarium. Only they are able to remove brown algae in the shortest possible time.
Step 3
Too bright light, too much fertilizer and too much carbon dioxide in the aquarium all contribute to the proliferation of green algae, which is a velvety fluffy carpet of intertwined threads. To get rid of them, reduce the light intensity of the aquarium and plant in it fast-growing ornamental plants that will compete with green algae for nutrients. Get viviparous fish such as guppies and swordtails. They will also help you combat the growth and proliferation of green algae.
Step 4
The appearance of blue-green algae, forming a layered film on the ground, indicates a strong pollution of the water with phosphates and nitrates. To get rid of them, use a siphon.
Step 5
To remove from the aquarium red algae that form a red fluff or long thin threads on its decorative elements, place a special resin in the aquarium filtration system, which can be purchased at a specialized pet store.
Step 6
The most undesirable inhabitant of the aquarium is the "Vietnamese". With its dark brushes, it can cover absolutely all surfaces. You can only remove these algae manually.
