Dogs tend to drag everything in their mouths that is in their field of vision. Unfortunately, when they succumb to this habit while walking, they unconsciously expose themselves to various intestinal disorders, leading to constipation and poisoning. In this case, the animals need to be given an enema. This should be done as follows:
Instructions
Step 1
Select enema size
If the dog is decorative, which means that it is very small, a small rubber bulb should be used as an enema. For a medium-sized dog (for example, a poodle), a rubber bulb with a capacity of 250-300g is suitable. For enema treatment of large animals (shepherd dog, Doberman), you should use Esmarch's mug, suspended at a height of about one meter.
Step 2
Prepare water for enema
It is better to use water for an enema boiled and certainly cooled to a temperature of 25-30C. Special wishes for the water temperature in the enema can be expressed by the attending veterinarian. If the enema is of a cleansing nature, you can use a decoction of chamomile flowers. You can also dissolve baking soda in water in the proportion: one tablespoon / glass of water.
Step 3
Prepare an enema
For disinfection, the rubber bulb and its tip must be boiled before use. It is not necessary to boil Esmarch's mug; it is enough to process the tip in the same way. Before administering an enema to a dog, the tip of a pear or Esmarch mug is lubricated with vaseline oil or a fatty cream that does not cause irritation (for example, for children). Also, before setting an enema, it is necessary to release air from the enema container. It's simple: you only need to release a small amount of liquid.
Step 4
Give an enema to a dog
Enema for dogs must be placed in the "on the side" position. Place the animal in a basin or bath, fix it in a lying position on its side, raise the dog's tail and carefully, without rough efforts, insert the tip into the anus with rotational movements. The content must be squeezed out gradually, without making sudden movements, as the dog can get scared, try to escape and harm itself. After removing the enema from the dog's anus, it is worth pressing its tail against the anus for a while and holding it in this position for 15-20 minutes. This will prevent the liquid from flowing out.
